Paint Supplier Benjamin Moore Cuts Its In-House Legal Team

Even in-house roles are not immune to elimination, as paint supply company Benjamin Moore showed in November when it got rid of its entire legal department. Unlikely to become a pattern, outsourcing to employment law firm Littler Mendelson may work for the Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, but most in-house departments cover a range of issues from regulatory compliance to various types of litigation. When that’s the case, it’s not so easy to cut costs via an outside firm. It would be unsurprising if, a few years down the road, we were to see Benjamin Moore rebuilding its own legal department to exercise more control over the company’s legal expenditures.
