Gideon Grunfeld | President

For more than 30 years, Gideon Grunfeld has been immersed in the world of jobs and hiring. As a human resources manager, attorney, and consultant, he has reviewed countless resumes and been involved with thousands of job interviews and salary negotiations. As President of Successful Career Strategies, he has since 2004 helped lawyers from every practice area find jobs and change careers.

Human Resources Management & Consulting

Gideon’s fascination with hiring and workplace trends dates back to college, where he studied Human Resource Management at the Wharton School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he served as a consultant at NERA, a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan, where he worked with expert witnesses testifying at trial, including cases which involved employment law litigation and affirmative action plans.

He then worked as a human resources manager at a 5,000-employee teaching hospital, where he was involved in handling union negotiations, investigating sexual harassment complaints, and advising senior executives on promotions and layoffs. He went on to a role as a human resources executive for ADP, then a Fortune 500 company.

Employment Law & Business Litigation

Gideon is a cum laude graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a former clerk to the Honorable Gary L. Taylor of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Gideon began his law firm career as an employment and business litigator with the Los Angeles office of Skadden Arps. In this capacity, he represented corporations, including Ralph Lauren and Pepsi, on the defense side of employment discrimination matters and other work-related disputes.

Gideon then worked as an employment law and business litigation attorney at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. His experience there included successfully defending one of the largest age discrimination lawsuits in the country and otherwise advising a range of employers.

Career Coaching

In 2004, after nearly ten years at these national law firms, Gideon founded Successful Career Strategies, Inc. to help people not only find jobs but also transition into new careers. He has worked extensively with attorneys at all levels, from solo practices and small boutiques to Am Law 200 firms, and he has assisted them in finding new jobs within the practice of law, founding their own firms, and transitioning to careers outside of the legal services industry.

Speeches & Bar Association Involvement

Gideon has written and spoken extensively on employment issues, having given presentations on salary negotiations and fee-setting for more than ten years. He has presented to thousands of lawyers at countless law firms in California and around the country. Gideon is a former President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Speakers Association and has spoken to numerous bar associations about how lawyers can find new law jobs.

Gideon is a fourth-generation lawyer (now on inactive status) and has long been committed to serving the legal community. He received the President’s Award for his more than five years of service as Chair of the Solo, Small Firm section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He was an Executive Committee member for seven years of the Law Practice Management and Technology Committee of the State Bar of California. Gideon also served on the board of the Counsel for Justice, the charitable arm of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
