Career Transition Coaching for Lawyers

Since 2004, Successful Career Strategies has helped attorneys transition to jobs within and outside of the practice of law. We are not recruiters and have no financial interest in where you end up. We have helped lawyers switch firms, change practice areas, transition to in-house positions, and take on a wide range of positions in academia, non-profits, government, and private companies. We have also helped clients launch their own law firms and establish non-profits.

Our Clients

We have worked with partners, of counsel, and associates at law firms ranging from solo practices and boutique firms to the Am Law 200. We have advised clients in practice areas including business litigation, employment law, corporate securities, commercial real estate, healthcare, entertainment, family law, personal injury, immigration, tax, and estate planning. Chances are good that we have advised someone who works in your area of law. Most of our clients work in large U.S. cities, and we have helped American lawyers transition internationally or return home.

How We Work With You

There are two distinct phases to an effective career transition: an internal inquiry and a job search. Many of our clients initially seek assistance with identifying what they want to do next. Some feel stuck, don’t like where they are, and don’t know how to identify what path they want to take. Others have tried to make a change before that didn’t work out. If either of these describes you, we suggest you start with an internal inquiry before jumping into a job search. If you have a clear sense of the kind of job or opportunity you’re seeking, begin with our job search services. Regardless of whether you know what kind of job you’re looking for, we can assist you with your career transition.

Discovering Your Next Career

It’s more common now than ever for lawyers to want to explore new directions. As you begin this exploration, through no fault of your own, you may not realize that focusing on job titles is the wrong way to figure out your next move.

The most effective way to find your new career is to identify what you have liked in the past with respect to eight specific elements of a job. Our individual coaching process will help you go through these factors and combine them to identify two or three specific jobs to which you want to apply. It typically takes between three and ten individualized sessions to discover your new career path.
